I have had a lot of my students and peers from different departments come up to me and ask me how do they become an expert in the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, and I have only one answer for them. You really can’t become an expert in this field! But what you can do instead is master some basic (but really important) core concepts behind every automated system.
Let me back up a bit and give you a brief insight into what I mean.
What are AI and ML?
AI or Artificial Intelligence is just the concept of making a system “intelligent” aka giving it the capacity to make decisions for itself. Machine learning (ML) is a part of AI, where you actually feed in some data to the machine and train it to respond to situations. You can imagine AI to be all vehicles in general whereas “car” is a certain type of vehicle as to how ML is a certain branch of AI.
